5 Dell Compellent Using Storage Center with FCoE and Linux
1 Leveraging Converged Network Adapters (CNAs) in a
converged environment with Linux
1.1 FCoE based Block Storage
This section outlines the installation and configuration of a Linux server leveraging hardware-based
Converged Network Adapters (CNAs) in a converged connectivity environment. In this environment, the
physical server has a two-port CNA card installed, with each port connected to a 10Gb Fiber Chanel over
Ethernet (FCoE) capable switch and will provide the server with both Fibre Channel and iSCSI based block
storage, as well as high performance traditional Ethernet connectivity.
The configuration of the CNAs in the BIOS menus will appear similar to that of traditional Fibre Channel
HBAs. It would be recommended at this time to note and record the respective MAC addresses of each
CNA, which may be very useful when needing to troubleshoot configurations from the network
perspective.
